Only magic, right? That’s my rule for myself on this website/blog. I know for a fact, as I left social media platforms one by one, I left because it was not a positive, helpful or affirming environment. Not at all surprising – just look at the type of people that have spear headed them. When I did it, some of my husband’s friends said, “Well we all feel that way about social media, she’s just doing something about it.” Exactly. I realize I am fortunate and hard working enough to have made myself an alternative. Many don’t have the background or the desire to do so. And so they are stuck with convenience. As my WWII Veteran father said, “You always pay for convenience.” And, I firmly believe that “only dead fish go with the flow”. So innovation and exploration are critical exercises.
Now, how do we remain in a positive, magic making mindset when literally surrounded by terrifying and horrific acts and events? That is the greatest challenge and I think I have a clue in watching many who would otherwise be holding firm to values, ethics and joy, simply crumble under the fear of reprisals. Fear is control. Knowledge is power. So switching your mind away from fear and toward learning is a game changer.
As we were surrounded by fires popping up all around us this week, I had an opportunity, when no one was in our home but me, to put on music, clean the floors and just DANCE! I thought at the time, “I’ve gone completely mad. I am mopping floors that may not be here if the winds shift in direction.” However, I realized, “it needs to be done”. The floors had not been cleaned since mid December and I feel better when my environment is clean and somewhat ordered. The women who kept the lights had the same charge. Make order out of chaos, in an isolated area, often with their husband or assistant keepers away on shore, and keep the light burning at all costs. I am the product of an Art Director father (evolved, beautiful man), and my school teacher/legal secretary, tenacious mother. So organized, creative chaos is my speed.
Each week I write a goal for that day and at the end of the week do a summary of “What am I grateful for?” “What did I do well this week?” and “What will I let go of this week?” (Thank you Karst datebooks for the method.) So last week I deleted my last Meta account, met with financial planners, re-payed ourselves from the money we spent on others over the holidays, ordered a household air filter unit, transferred data to a new laptop and finished reading about “Women Who Kept the Lights by Mary Louise Clifford and J. Candace Clifford”. I have always been fascinated by lighthouses and the people who kept them burning to keep others safe.
That’s why I think it’s important to have a space where people can go and feel that they are guided back toward mental health, peace and creativity. It’s not only vital for me and keeps me exercising my mind and focus, it’s vital for other people too.
Here you will find me illuminating the many accomplishments of women (and myself) and a bit less so of men. Why? Well as you can tell by the information circus currently swirling around America’s, (will the country’s name stay the same or be changed on a personal whim?) transition to new leadership that is decidedly old school. They have, and have always had, the megaphone. I am sure some good will come out of this transitional time and yet, I am equally sure there will be many, many people suffering and dying.
So my flavor on this site will remain decidedly a feminine viewpoint that spotlights only the souls who uplift us. (The evolved men will understand and will be occasionally highlighted here as well).
May you feel peace today, even if you have to work to create it for yourself.
